Be CALM Tier 1 Educator Training
Be a leader in bringing mindfulness and social-emotional learning to your learning community
A trained Be CALM educator builds supportive, responsive relationships with adolescents.
A trained Be CALM educator co-creates learning communities that nurture a sense of connectedness and belonging.
A trained Be CALM educator utilizes mindfulness and self-compassion to respond to stress and challenging situations with kindness and curiosity.
A trained Be CALM educator models the same social-emotional skills they are teaching and coaching adolescents to develop and strengthen.
Become a Trained Be CALM Educator
The Be CALM Program is a mindfulness-based Tier 1 Social-Emotional Learning program for 6th - 9th graders with two levels (6th/7th and 8th/9th) of developmentally-appropriate curriculum that consist of 16 (45-minute) weekly lessons each.
The foundation of teaching mindfulness and social-emotional skills to adolescents is embodiment of these skills. The Be CALM Teacher training pathway is for educators who wish to model kindness, curiosity, nonjudgmental acceptance, and courage in the learning environment.

Who Should Attend Training?

Based on our experience working with schools and districts, we strongly recommend that schools send a team of at least 3 educators, including a classroom teacher, a student support professional, and an administrator.
The optimal Be CALM implementation model includes Be CALM coach training for student support professionals and experienced Be CALM teachers. These educators provide ongoing support to teachers delivering the student curriculum.

Be CALM Hybrid Mindfulness Course
Ongoing, open enrollment
Fee: $65
Educators begin the Be CALM Teacher Training pathway with a virtual Be CALM Hybrid Mindfulness course that blends self-paced learning and live ZOOM sessions. The time commitment for the course is approximately 4-6 hours over the course of 4-6 weeks. This course must be completed in order to teach the Be CALM student curriculum and to become a Certified Be CALM coach.
*Participants will need to purchase either a digital copy or hard copy of the book Mindfulness in the Secondary Classroom (2019) by Patricia C. Broderick at their own expense.

Be CALM Foundations Training
Fee: $175
The Be CALM Foundations training is a full-day, in- person training designed to increase self-awareness, broaden perspective, and cultivate curiosity to support adolescents' SEL skills development. Participants share and reflect on mindful teaching, co-creating safe, supportive learning environments, strengthening connections with students, and responding with kindness and curiosity in challenging situations.

Be CALM Curriculum Training

Following completion of the Be CALM Foundations training, participants are eligible to participate a half-day, in-person Be CALM Curriculum Training. During this experiential training, participants will:

Become oriented to the 16-lesson student curriculum content, organization, and instructional methods

Gain familiarity with key concepts and skills in each lesson through experiential learning

Increase confidence in facilitating mindfulness practices

Practice teaching lesson activities and applying mindful teaching skills

Curriculum Materials: Upon completion of the Be CALM Mindfulness Practice Course, the Be CALM Foundations Training, and the Be CALM Curriculum Training, participants will receive the following curriculum materials:

Program Support Meetings: Concurrent with implementation of the Be CALM student curriculum, participants are invited to attend program support support meetings that are offered 2x/month in a professional learning community with other educators who are teaching and/or supporting the implementation of the Be CALM student curriculum. Program Support Meetings are facilitated by an expert Be CALM Trainer or a Certified Be CALM Coach.

Be CALM Coach Training
FEE: $100
The Be CALM Coach training equips participants with skills to become Be CALM coaches and provide ongoing support to teachers delivering the student curriculum in their school or district. Be CALM coaches co-deliver the student curriculum with beginning Be CALM teachers, support educators' mindfulness and co-regulation growth, and disseminate information about the Be CALM Program and mindfulness school-wide.
Be CALM Coach training is required for any educator who is providing coaching support to those teaching the Be CALM student curriculum, which may include student support staff, such as counselors and/or social workers, school-based mental health clinicians, or experienced Be CALM teachers.
Concurrent with implementation of the full 16-lesson Be CALM student curriculum, participants are required to attend at least 6 (45-minute) program support meetings that are offered in a professional learning community with other educators who are supporting the implementation of the Be CALM student curriculum.
